The book in ten minutes

Growth hacking began as clever tricks for start-ups. In its third generation it is a way of running a business that learns from every interaction.

AI agents do much of the work. People decide what the work is for. The book answers three questions a growth leader now faces.

What to manage

The 10Ps

Keep the seven classic Ps and add three new ones. Personalization decides what each customer sees, Platforms decide who else helps you create value, and Performatics decides how fast you learn.

Chapter 2
When to act

Data Threshold Awareness

Algorithmic growth works only after a business has enough data. In the authors' tests a reliable monthly A/B test needed about 62,000 users, personalised recommendations beat a bestseller list after roughly 10,000 interactions, and an optimisation agent captured under a quarter of the possible gain below 10,000 monthly users.

Chapter 2 and Appendix C
How to run it

The Performatics loop

Collect, Learn, Predict, Test, Deploy and Measure, then start again, always inside guardrails of goals, budgets, brand, privacy and law. Agents can run the loop; only people can decide what the business is for.

Chapter 7
12chapters, each self-contained
29growth playbook cards, one per product
40companies, ten industries, next moves
7businesses followed through every chapter

The first lesson of the book

Which side of the data threshold are you on?

Below it, the clever tools disappoint and can mislead. Inside the zone, each new customer adds the most value. Beyond it, the edge moves to richer signals and better ideas. Five questions from Chapter 2 give you a first reading.

THRESHOLD ZONE Before product, sales, partners, clean data After agents test and optimise at scale Value from AI-driven growth engaged users and data history
Each dot is one turn of the learning loop. The threshold is a zone, not a line, and it moves with how often your customers interact. Pre-trained models shift it left for content and perception, not for decisions about your own customers.

The five-question check

Answer yes or no for the part of the business you want to grow.

Do we have tens of thousands of engaged users, customers, devices, sites or transactions generating data?
Do we have at least six months of clean, consistent behavioural data?
Do customers make the decision we want to influence frequently, weekly or more?
Can we run an experiment and read a reliable result within a month?
Do we have the consent and legal basis to use this data for personalization?

The authors

Written in Pune, tested on their own products

One of their own products taught them the lesson first: a well-known growth tactic that did not work, not because the idea was wrong but because there was not yet enough data for it. Finding out why became a research project, a series of papers, and then this book.
